We planned a trip to Beijing and Shanghai for the Christmas holidays, part;y for a family holiday and partly for meetings with Chinese airlines for gathering information on their fleet.

Our son Alex has to depart San Francisco a couple days later than us, due to final exams at his high school.

For this trip, Alex took United Airlines' non-stop from San Francisco to Beijing in First Class.

UA 889 San Francisco to Beijing is served by UA's Boeing 777-200. Unfortunately, UA has run into problems with renovating the interior of their 777 fleet, and has deferred the start of the renovation to later in 2009. So this 777 still has the original full-flat sleeper suites in First Class.

At least Alex got one of the best suites, 2A, it is an individual suite by the window, with both a window view and good privacy.

The middle pair of suites are preferred by passengers traveling together, close enough for quiet conversation
Each of the First Class suites has a storage bin next to the seat with a flip-up cover.
There is plenty more space for stowing your personal items within easy reach inside the suite.
The dining menu was already placed at each suite before boarding commences.
For this flight, two doors (L1 & L2) were used for boarding, so only a few passengers pass through First Class in order to get to their seats. Most passengers boarding through the second door behind First Class.
First Class is mostly empty, and has only four passengers on this flight,
Alex was too hungry, and forgot to take pictures for the main meal service. He got hungry in the middle of the flight and asked for instant noodles for snack,
While waiting for the noodles to be ready, Alex already ate half of a pretzel roll ...
A little over an hour before landing, lunch was served.

Beef pastrami iwth baby Swiss on rye. Over roasted fingerling potatoes and a fresh fruit appetizer.

Business class was served the same lunch as First Class. Since we took the same flight two days earlier, we snugged in this picture from Business Class to show the yummy pastrami.
